Sasha Obama is once again in the public eye following a gym session in West Hollywood. The 24-year-old daughter of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama was photographed leaving a luxury fitness studio wearing a sleek workout set and holding a vape.
Sasha has largely kept a low profile since graduating from college, Blast reported. Her latest outing, however, sparked fresh conversation online about fame, family influence, and growing up in the spotlight. Sasha kept her look sporty and minimal during the Thursday workout in California.
Photos obtained by the Daily Mail showed the youngest Obama daughter wearing a coordinated black athleisure set featuring a sports bra and high-waisted leggings.
The outfit revealed a glimpse of her midriff as she exited the upscale gym. After finishing the workout, she appeared to swap sneakers for flip flops. She also flashed a toe ring as she stepped outside.
Her long brown hair was pulled into a high ponytail. She carried an oversized tote bag over one shoulder.
In one hand, Sasha held her phone. In the other, she carried a vape. She appeared to take several puffs as she walked away from the building. The sighting quickly circulated online.
Many social media users commented on how relaxed and independent she appeared.
Sasha relocated to the West Coast in 2022 after transferring from the University of Michigan to the University of Southern California. The move marked a major shift from the years she spent growing up in the White House.
Sasha Obama graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2023 with a degree in sociology.
Both of her parents attended the ceremony. Living in Los Angeles has allowed Sasha to maintain a relatively private life. Still, she and her older sister Malia Obama are occasionally photographed around the city.
The sisters have been seen vaping and smoking on several occasions over the years. The sightings have fueled speculation about where the habit may have originated.
Neither sister has publicly addressed it. Their father’s well-documented struggle with smoking has been widely discussed.

Barack Obama began smoking as a teenager.
He later acknowledged that quitting remained difficult even after entering politics. Obama once revealed that he smoked up to ten cigarettes a day. During a 2009 press conference, he addressed the habit openly.
“As a former smoker, I constantly struggle with it,” he said. “Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I a daily smoker or a constant smoker? No. I don’t do it in front of my kids. I don’t do it in front of my family.”
Obama later described himself as “95 percent cured.”
He admitted there were still moments when he slipped. In his 2020 memoir “A Promised Land,” Obama credited his eldest daughter with helping him quit.
He wrote that seeing Malia frown after smelling smoke on his breath pushed him to stop for good. Michelle Obama has also spoken about the challenge of raising teenagers in the public eye.
In April 2025, she said keeping her daughters’ typical teenage experiences out of the press during their White House years was extremely difficult.
According to a report from The Blast, Michelle described the effort as a “nightmare.”
She explained that milestones like driving, prom, traveling, college searches, parties, drinking, and trying smoking were all normal parts of adolescence.
But she and her team worked hard to keep those moments from ending up in gossip columns.
Because the girls were under Secret Service protection, even simple activities required extra planning.
Michelle said every weekend presented new challenges in protecting their privacy while allowing them to live ordinary lives.
Michelle rarely speaks publicly about her daughters’ private lives.
